Advancing AI literacy through dialogue, collaboration, and responsible innovation in education.

As part of its ongoing commitment to accessible, human-centric AI education, the AI-Literacy TeacherAcademy continued its engagement with the educational community through a visit by Evangelos Katis to the 1st Laboratory Center (EK) of Heraklion on September 14, 2026.

Building on the productive school visits earlier this year, the presentation provided an opportunity to continue the dialogue on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming education and society. Educators explored the opportunities AI offers for everyday life and teaching, while highlighting the importance of developing the knowledge and skills needed to use these technologies effectively, critically, and responsibly.

1. Exploring the role of AI in everyday life and education

The discussion highlighted the growing presence of AI in our daily lives, from healthcare applications to smart mobility, and examined its potential to support teaching and learning. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of AI literacy for teachers, enabling them to understand emerging technologies and make informed decisions about their use in educational settings.

Key topics included:

  • AI in everyday life: Understanding how AI supports applications and services across different sectors of society.
  • AI literacy for teachers: Recognizing the need for educators to develop the knowledge and confidence to navigate an increasingly AI-driven world.
  • Practical classroom applications: Exploring how AI tools can support teachers in their daily workflow, lesson preparation, and educational activities.
  • Responsible and ethical use: Emphasizing critical thinking, ethical awareness, human oversight, and the importance of keeping people at the center of educational decisions.

2. Building bridges through collaboration

The visit also opened new opportunities for collaboration through two key initiatives: the TALOS AI4SSH project and the AI-Literacy TeacherAcademy. Both initiatives contribute to the broader effort to promote meaningful engagement with AI and support educators in understanding its implications for education and society.

Through these exchanges, the AI-Literacy TeacherAcademy continues to foster dialogue between educational communities and initiatives working toward accessible, responsible, and human-centric AI education.

A heartfelt thank-you to the principal, organizers, and educators of the 1st Laboratory Center of Heraklion for the warm invitation, the engaging discussion, and their continued dedication to shaping the future of education.

By bringing educators together to explore both the opportunities and the responsibilities associated with AI, initiatives such as the AI-Literacy TeacherAcademy help lay the groundwork for a more informed, inclusive, and responsible approach to AI in education.
