Supporting Teachers for Responsible AI in Education

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping how we teach, learn, and assess. To guide educators through these opportunities and challenges, the European Teacher Academy for AI Literacy (TAILi) has officially launched. 

TAILi is a European network of 14 partners from 7 countries, working together over three years, from 2026 to 2028. The consortium brings together universities, schools, educational organisations, and technology partners, combining research expertise, classroom experience, and digital-learning practice to support teachers’ AI literacy across Europe, co-designing an inclusive, practice-oriented training program for both pre-service and in-service teachers.

1. A Human-Centred Approach

Teachers need more than basic digital skills—they need critical awareness, pedagogical wisdom, and ethical judgment. TAILi approaches AI literacy through four interconnected areas:

• AI Knowledge & Awareness: Understanding core AI mechanics, generative models, limitations, and bias.
• Pedagogical Practice & Innovation: Designing meaningful learning activities, differentiation, and assessments.
• Ethics, Governance & Human Agency: Safeguarding privacy, equity, academic integrity, and human decision-making.
• Professional Development & Readiness: Building collaborative learning communities and school-level policies.

2. From Curriculum to Practical Learning

The TAILi training framework combines multiliteracies pedagogy with project-based learning. Educators will tackle realistic classroom scenarios, evaluate ethical dilemmas, and reflect on practical applications. Delivered as Digital Learning Objects (DLOs) and Open Educational Resources (OERs), the learning materials feature engaging, accessible formats:

Practical tool-exploration and reflection tasks

Interactive H5P objects and Moodle activities

Videos, case studies, and classroom templates

3. Working Together Across Europe

Consortium partners are collaboratively developing materials designed for adaptation, translation, and localized context across European school settings. In the upcoming phases, the team will finalize the curriculum, pilot the modules with frontline educators, and refine the offerings based on real-world feedback.

TAILi aims to build a future where teachers confidently master AI—using it where it adds true educational value while protecting human agency and pedagogical integrity.
